Production:
Sustainability and Innovation

The life cycle of corrugated board packaging begins with the production of paper in a paper mill, continues with its processing into corrugated board and cardboard packaging, and ends with its return to the material cycle, which enables it to be recycled. The life cycle is based on renewable raw materials and uses them sparingly and sustainably. And yet this life cycle has an impact on the environment and on people.

Our ambition is to further minimize our footprint, work on innovative and sustainable solutions, make production processes more efficient and thus make a significant contribution to achieving climate protection targets.

To achieve this, light-weight papers are increasingly used to produce corrugated board in our corrugated board plant on the basis of wastepaper, and material waste is minimized as much as possible. On the one hand, this ensures that the raw materials are recycled as fully as possible, while on the other hand it also saves large quantities of waste.

In addition, our machines are continuously checked for efficiency and, if necessary, upgraded as part of a "retrofit" or replaced with newer, more energy-efficient machines. Ecological variables such as CO2 emissions are used as a benchmark.

Automated warehousing, optimized workshop coordination and the avoidance of unnecessary packing volumes and empty spaces also serve to maintain the self-imposed standards.

Our goal by 2024: Implementation of a new ERP system, increase in productivity of our machinery by 1% per machine group, reduction of paper consumption in administration by 10%, reduction of waste volumes by minimizing independent slip sheet production by 20% and minimization of edge trimming by 0.1%.

Administration and Ethics:
Moving Forward Together

Appreciation, reliability, trust, closeness, and team spirit: Values that have always been close to our hearts as a medium-sized family business, both in corporate management and in our approach to our stakeholders. We laid down the corresponding guidelines in various documents of the corporate philosophy, the code of ethics and suppliers, and the quality policy many years ago. Other guidelines relate to occupational health and safety and environmental protection.

Our organizational structure is characterized by flat hierarchies and an open communication culture. We encourage active participation and focus on independent responsibilities at all levels.

Sustainability management is the responsibility, review, and coordination of the Management Board - here, in addition to Roland Zerhusen, in particular his daughter Linda Stärk. Since 2022, we have voluntarily participated in an annual assessment of our sustainability activities by the "EcoVadis" platform. To establish sustainability across all business aspects and in all departments, the managers from each department; purchasing, sales, logistics, human resources, QM and organization are involved in the strategic considerations. Our ambition is to form a sustainability team in 2023 to coordinate and report our activities.
